Domaine Sangouard-Guyot Wines

Your Sommelier is very proud of this discovery, a small family vineyard in the heart of the Maconnais and split across three great appellations: Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. All their wines are true examples of what Chardonnay can be at its best in the terroirs of South Burgundy. They are very popular and sold out so quickly year after year that it's never easy to get our hands on them!

The estate has been in Pierre-Emmanuel’s family since the 18th Century and he has merged it to his wife’s family estate to create the 12 hectares they manage together, with the help of their children… a true family story! It goes without saying that the work in the vineyards is done with the utmost respect for the nature, grapes are handpicked and the use of chemical products is limited to a minimum. Winemaking is then specific to each plot to make the most of the different terroirs and to produce so specific Cuvées.

Of course one might wonder why this Domain remains so confidential and the answer is in its size: each Cuvée is only a few thousand bottles and this is why you won’t find them easily in the UK!

This unusual Mâcon appellation comes from the small village of Bussières, right at the edge of the Pouilly-Fuissé area. The location, and the ageing in oak barrels, could explain why it tastes more like a Pouilly-Fuissé than a classic Mâcon-Villages! Its first nose is rather fruity, leading to fine mineral fragrances. Great balance of flavours in the...

Saint-Véran is one of the appellations of the Maconnais in South Burgundy, it is a lovely Chardonnay with a mineral nose of white fruit, flowers and a touch of citrus. The wine is rich and round with a perfect balance between freshness, intensity and the aromas of ripe fruits. Definitely a great Saint-Véran, ready to drink today and worth every penny!

Moving on to the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, we have selected this "authentique" un-oaked Cuvée made from a plot called "La Roche" situated up the rock of Vergisson. This typical terroir brings minerality, balance and power to the wine and the ageing in thermo-regulated tanks preserves its elegant and silky fruit aromas. A fantastic Pouilly-Fuissé praised...

This second Pouilly-Fuissé comes from one of the best plots of Vergisson: “Ronchevat”, a 50 year-old vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils. Mindful of traditions, Pierre-Emmanuel leaves this cuvée in oak barrels as his ancestors used to do. The result is a full-bodied wine with toasty and buttery notes, aromas of white flowers and exotic fruit,...

Cuvée Quintessence comes from one of the best vineyards of Vergisson - "Le Clos des Croux" in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The nose is complex and reveals so much about the personality of the wine. It shows aromas of citrus and gently toasted fruit. On the palate, a nice minerality perfectly balanced with the subtle toasty notes provided by the oak. A...
