Château Mondorion & Château de Cérons Graves Wines
There is a very strong link between the two domains we are offering this week: their owner. Though located in two different appellations of the Bordeaux vineyard, they both belong to an Italian engineer, Giorgio Cavanna, and his local business partners Bertrand and Patrick Léon, former advisers of Château Mouton Rotschild. Giorgo discovered winemaking in the Chianti region on his father’s domain, Castello di Ama, and he decided to pursue his own dream in 2000. Along with three Bordelais friends, he bought the Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons in the Graves appellation and the Château Mondorion in Saint-Emilion. In both Châteaux, vineyards are managed with respect and passion, everything being done by hand. The huge efforts brought to both properties have built a reputation of well-made wines with a highly consistent quality.
Grand Enclos du Château de Cérons is a beautiful 25 hectares property in the Graves Appellation which produces a white, a red and a sweet wine. Some of the vines are very old, which provides wine with a really nice structure. In the middle of the vineyards of Saint-Emilion, Château Mondorion is a Grand Cru producing a beautiful Merlot dominated red wine - at a very decent price for a good Grand Cru.
