Domaine Seguin-Manuel wine

Domaine Seguin-Manuel wine

“If you are looking for affordable, well-crafted Burgundy, then look no further than here.” This is how Robert Parker speaks of the Domaine Seguin-Manuel and he is absolutely right.

Since Thibault Marion acquired and entirely overhauled the property, he has developed its reputation considerably. Everything there is implemented to produce high quality wines: respect of the environment, organic growing, manual harvest, strict grape selection, natural fermentation... Domaine Seguin-Manuel produces outstanding wines from the main appellations of Burgundy, which are unanimously well noted by all wine critics.

We completely fell for the domain's whites wines, which are simply superb - even the "simple" Bourgogne Chardonnay. We have decided to pick the 2014 vintage for all of them, which is exceptional for whites in the region. They are already brilliant today and will last several years easily, so do not be afraid to load a few cases! Red wines are not to be forgotten, all showing a beautiful finesse and an elegant concentration.

In short, Seguin-Manuel is a little treasure which makes Your Sommelier especially proud this week - especially that it is hardly available in the UK!

A very special Bourgogne Chardonnay, as it is made with grapes coming from Meursault! It is no surprise if the quality of this wine easily overcomes most Bourgogne Chardonnays - Jancis Robinson even gives it a 16. It has an expressive nose of lime, white peach with a hint of flowers and light wooden notes. It shows a superb balance on the palate. A clear,...

Just above the Bourgogne Pinot Noir appellation, this Hautes-Côtes de Beaune is an aromatic Pinot Noir with flavours of red berries and a floral hint. It is fresh and elegant, and its tannins are already well integrated. Very pure on the palate, it will make happy any amateur looking for something for a light bodied burgundy beyond a simple Pinot Noir.

Moving up in the range, this Rully is made of old Chardonnay vines. They provide wine with more fruity flavours and tend to make it more concentrated, for a better complexity. Flavours of ripe apple and hints of peach end up on a beautiful and fresh finish. An excellent bottle which will be perfect on prawns or a white meat.

Made from 70-year old vines, this Savigny-lès-Beaune is a generous and charming red. It shows complex aromas of ripe red and black fruit, slight herbal notes on a supple structure with velvet tannins. A very well crafted Pinot Noir which has been a huge success for Seguin-Manuel. This 2012 vintage is fully in its drinking window right now, it is perfect...

Your Sommelier is a big fan of Pouilly-Fuissé, often showing outstanding quality and complexity for the price - and this one is a perfect example. It exhibits pure notes of citrus and honeysuckle, supported by a beautiful minerality and a buttery finish, giving the wine a real class. A superb bottle for this price range.

Here comes a really prestigious wine - this is a cracking Meursault with a rich complexity. Buttery and floral aromas come together with flavours of lime, ripe apricot and peach. Tasting ends up with a long and toasted finish. A beautiful bottle that will show you why Burgundy white wines have this reputation. Just outstanding.

Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the most prestigious appellations in Burgundy and it definitely gives amazing wines in the hands of a gifted winemaker like Thibaut Marion. Made from old vines in one single plot, this Gevrey is everything you can hope for with this type of wine. Beautiful aromas of black and red fruits nicely enhanced with a spicy touch,...

More powerful than the Gevrey, this Volnay 1er Cru is a stunning wine for amateurs of great red Burgundy. It shows aromas of cherry and blackcurrant, along with toasted notes coming from the long ageing in oak. The palate is very well balanced between aromas and tannins, which are present but well integrated. It ends with a long a savoury finish.

"What an amazing wine" was all we could say when we tasted this Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru with Thibault Marion, the winemaker and owner of the domain. It is to our mind one of the most perfect white burgundy we've ever had. Everything is in there - fruit, minerality, complexity, long buttery finish... This is the kind of wine which makes you realise...

This is the first vintage of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes from Seguin-Manuel since the 1950's and let's hope it's not the last - it's definitely a catch! Lovely nose of red fruits, elegant and fine palate, clean tannins and excellent length are the ingredients of this stunning Premier Cru that we absolutely loved when we tasted it. We definitely...
