Bordeaux Grand Vins & second wines
This week is about discovering great Châteaux and their second wines from the Médoc area; and understanding how wines can be different among several appellations from the same area.
Haut-Médoc is the most Southern appellation we have today with the Haut-Médoc from Château Haut-Bages Libéral, offering an outstanding value for money. You will also have the opportunity to discover Listrac-Médoc with Château Fourcas Dupré, one of the best names out there.
Going North, Margaux produces elegant and subtle wines, often qualified as "feminine". Château Dauzac is a great ambassador of Margaux, with a growing reputation year after year since the property was entirely overhauled.
Slightly further North sits Pauillac, famous for its highly aromatic and classy wines. Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a classic and prestigious name in the area, with one of the best value for quality in the area.
Saint-Estèphe, the most northern "commune" appellation in Médoc produces more tannic and full-bodied wines than other places in Bordeaux, with a nice complexity. Château Tour de Pez is one of best Cru Bourgeois and Château Cos d'Estournel, a 2nd Grand Cru Classé, has the reputation of being the best estate around.
