Saint Michel Wine
When we recently tasted and compared several domains from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine Tour Saint-Michel has been our clear winner, by far. We could not agree more with Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson, who give outstanding marks to these wines. Even their simple Côtes-du-Rhône are great and extremely affordable!
The 40-hectares vineyard elaborates Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines with both traditional and modern techniques. Mireille Porte, the 3rd generation of the family owning the domain, has done tremendous work to improve the quality of the different cuvées and wins more awards year after year. Domaine Tour Saint-Michel is slowly becoming a rising star of the appellation, and prices still remain really reasonable - for now!
Domaine Tour Saint-Michel is clearly a specialist of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, but also uses its savoir-faire to produce this delicious Côtes du Rhône. With aromas of ripe and juicy red fruit, this simple and easy-drinking red has just enough complexity (thanks to 15% of Syrah) to drink it at any occasion.
The white version of the Côtes du Rhône is a fruity and fresh wine with flavours of white fruit (apple, pear), provided by local grapes Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Nothing over-complicated, but perfect to drink before diner or with a prawn salad. If you like fruity whites produced in sunny area, this wine is for you!
This white Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a round, medium to full-bodied and fruity white wine, showing flavours of stone fruit (peach, apricot), pear and melon. The hint of citrus gives a beautiful freshness, necessary for a good balance. A great example of these aromatic white wines with a lot of personality and a long, long finish.
"The Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Deux Sœurs is brilliant." - Robert Parker. With an intense and profound colour, this medium to full-bodied wine offers an elegant nose of red berries, cherries and spices. The palate is nicely structured, well balanced, with a long finish and subtle well-integrated tannins. It is the flagship Châteauneuf-du-Pape on which...
Few wines are praised by a 90 from Robert Parker AND a 17 from Jancis Robinson - and even fewer are under £30 a bottle. This cuvée, created in 2003, exhibits a concentrated nose of ripe black cherries and kirsch. One the palate, this full-bodied red shows a powerful structure with silky tannins and a spicy finish, brought by oak barrels and a bigger...
