Domaine du Joncas wine

Domaine du Joncas wine

Domaine du Joncas was created by Pascal Dallier in 2010, after he gave up his €40m car dealing business to realise his winemaking dream. He started with only 3 hectares (which has grown to 8 today) and learnt winemaking on his own before receiving advice from Alain Chabanon, a leading local winegrower.  What Pascal has achieved in 6 years is truly stunning; being now recognized as one of the “Rising Star” of the region – he was selected as such by a panel of English and French critic like The Decanter or Tim Atkins. His wines are also regularly among the Top 100 Wines of Languedoc, which does not surprise us at all!

What we love a about this domain is the 100% authentic approach, from vineyards to the winery. Everything is organic here, and yields are lower than what you can find anywhere else - as low as 15 hectolitres per hectare! As a result, wines are balanced and show amazing concentration, maturity, and complexity. There is also something unique in each cuvée, and that what makes them even more authentic!

The domain had been on our wish list for a while, but we wanted to be able to offer all their wines at the same time - which can be tricky given the low volumes produced. For example, Domaine du Joncas is one of the only Languedoc producers making a Riesling, which is incredible - but it was extremely hard to get our hands on it!

This cuvée Nèbla is an interesting Rosé wine to have with Asian food, having a bit more character than a Provence rosé. It's nice, fresh, and fruity, boasting notes of citrus, raspberry and a hint of litchee. The finish is long and fruity, definitely a rosé for an aperitif with smoked salmon on toast or during a meal with Thai food.

"Nèbla" (Mist) is the first red wine of the domain and is very typical of the Languedoc, but with an additional freshness that brings is to a whole new level! It develops superb, classy aromas of black fruit (black currant, black cherries), highlighted by a spicy structure (peppercorn) and a lovely freshness in the finish. Only partly aged in used oak...

"Jòia" means joy in Occitan, the local dialect and everything is in that name: it is a light, crispy and fruity red wine to drink over a meal with friends. Not pretentious, just a lot of joy in the bottle! Yummy flavours of red fruit will fill your nose and palate, followed by a minty touch that gives a really fresh finish. This bottle can go with many...

"Canta" (Song) is the incredible wine we are mentioning in the domain presentation. Please, forget everything you know about Riesling. This does not taste like classic Riesling, or like anything else actually. Coming from young vines planted on a very steep slope, it shows subtle and complex aromas of lemon, pear and passion fruit. A truly beautiful...

"Alba" (Dawn) was the first white wine experiment of the domain, and it is not a classic white Languedoc. Made from young Grenache Gris vines, it exhibits explosive aromas of lemon, exotic fruit and quince jam. A powerful minerality brings in freshness and finesse, with a long and buttery finish. We absolutely love unusual wines showing such a personality!

"Òbra" (Chef d'oeuvre) is the high-end cuvée of the domain - and it blew us away. Made from very tiny yield (15 hectolitres per hectares, which is not a lot), it is a powerful, tannic yet very elegant wine. It exhibits multiple flavours of red fruit, prune, cherry, Provence herbs and spices. Incredibly complex with a very, very long velvety finish. Top...
