Moulin-à-Vent "Les Michelons" 2015 - Domaine Yohan Lardy

Beaujolais is a wonderful region just South of Burgundy, home to the Gamay grape. While this area suffers from the cheap image of the Beaujolais Nouveau, some Cru - like Moulin-à-Vent - still have an excellent reputation. Yohan Lardy started his estate with only 2 hectares of old vines in the most sought after appellations of the region. This beautiful Moulin-à-Vent is his little gem, sowing a deep red garnet robe with purple tints. Nose is very "Burgundian" displaying red berries, cherry, liquorice and floral notes with a touch of smoke. Palate is concentrated and classy with some red fruits, very fine tannins and a nice complexity. A brillant wine!

Jancis Robinson

16.5/20 "85-year-old vines planted at 300 m, south facing, on red granite, sandstone and manganese. Whole-cluster maceration for 14 days in concrete and then 10 months in old barrels. Mid to dark crimson. Lifted and very recognisably beaujolais on the nose. Sweet and round palate entry. Rather gamey – a sort of cross between beaujolais and northern Rhône? Very masterful tannin handling even though there is some chew on the end."

Wine Advocate - Robert Parket

88/100 "The 2015 Moulin A Vent les Michelons underwent carbonic maceration and aging in neutral oak barrels. There is an attractive strawberry shortcake scent on the nose, generous, perhaps obvious but still you find it charming. The palate is fresh on the entry with sappy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity and a slight saline note on the aftertaste. Drink over the next four or five years."

Wine Enthusiast

88/100 "The wine is still young with its crisp red fruits and tense tannins. It is a structured wine, firm with a dry core and still developing its fruitiness. It will need to age a while yet, so drink from 2018."
