Lirac is an appellation located just opposite Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley. It is known to produce wines which are similar to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, without the price tag. Clos de Sixte is THE reference in Lirac. It boasts delicious aromas of wild blackberries and some red fruit. Palate is round and spicy, and the finish is surprisingly long. Definitely worth it!

90/100 "A year in, year out success, the 2014 Lirac Clos de Sixte has lots of framboise and strawberry notes to go with a medium to full-bodied, supple, forward and sweetly fruited profile on the palate. Made from 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre that was raised in a combination of stainless steel and smaller barrels, it has fine tannin and an already delicious, hard to resist style. Drink it on release and over the following 4-5 years."
17/20 "Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre. Racy, glossy fruit – really quite sophisticated with fine tannins on the end and better than many a Châteauneuf. Concentrated, sweet and rich and actually quite like a Châteauneuf!" (previous vintage)
91/100 "Features a solid, fleshy core of steeped plum and blackberry paste flavors, inlaid with anise and graphite details. The brambly spine in well-embedded through the finish. Drink now through 2020." (previous vintage)
