Château Maucaillou 2014 Moulis-en-Médoc Cru Bourgeois

Château Maucaillou is often considered as Chasse-Spleen's little brother, the most famous Château of the appellation, but it is definitely able to show a similar quality. This 2014 is medium to full-bodied, with ripe red berries and tobacco aromas. Well-balanced with soft tannins and persistent finish. It will definitely age well, but is already a big pleasure today if you open it in advance.

Jancis Robinson

16/20 "Very deep purple. Something a little farmyardy about the nose here. But it’s juicy and relatively simple. Fruit juice with some tannin… Robust but just a little coarse, with marked acidity and a bit drying on the end."

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

91/100 "The 2014 Maucaillou put in a good performance when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it builds on that promise with a fresh and vital bouquet: blackberry, tobacco and graphite to the fore, vibrant and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp and lively entry, well-judged acidity and fine tannin. It is not a dense wine, not a Moulis of immense body, but it has great length and real finesse. This comes recommended."

Wine Enthusiast

90/100 "A ripe, juicy and smoky wine that is already attractive to drink. It has soft tannins, ripe red berries with acidity and black currants at the end. Drink this fine wine from 2020."
