Montlouis-sur-Loire Clair de Lune 2016 - Complices de Loire

This bottle is kind of our little favourite this week. Montlouis-sur-Loire is a tiny off-the-radar appellation, producing fresh and aromatic whites from the Chenin Blanc grape. With a bright golden colour, a nose of citrus and grilled almonds, it shows a rich and complex palate. A beautiful minerality stands out here, enhancing the long, superb and slightly sweet finish provided by the barrel fermentation. We just love this wine!

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

89/100 "The Montlouis-sur-Loire Clair de Lune from clay/silex soil in the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation is another nice example of the clear, fresh and fruit-driven wine style of the Complices de Loire. Claire de lune has a bright citrus color and a correspondingly fresh and clear aroma of golden apples, pears, raisins and white peach with a dash of lime juice on the nose. However, this is surely attractive, but far from being a just fruity wine, since the vibrantly earthy/mineral foundation shines through, not only on the nose but also on the palate where it lends the wine a nice purity, salinity and freshness. The alcohol level of 13% is not that high and the complexity is not overloaded. You can easily open the bottle and enjoy a lovely Chenin Blanc now and in the next 4 or 5 years." (previous vintage)

Guide Hachette des Vins

1* "Who remembers that Chenin Blanc, the emblematic grape variety of the Loire Valley, is also called "moonlight"? Here it gives a wine with a bright pale yellow color that evokes a star. The nose is well defined with notes of citrus, exotic fruits and almond. The palate is built on acidity that gives it a lot of freshness, enhanced by citrus notes. A wine for the beginning of a meal." (previous vintage)

La Revue des Vins de France

"Lemon, grapefruit and citrus: this wine is smooth, straight, very well structured. Complices de Loire has been making outstanding wines for the past 3 years." (previous vintage)
