L'Autre Blanc 2016 - Domaine d'Aigues Belles

It is impossible for us to say if we prefer "Le Blanc" or "L'Autre Blanc" - they are both exceptional white wines, yet quite different from each other - don't hesitate to try them both and come back for more later on! L'Autre Blanc is a complex and subtle blend of the local Roussanne grape with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It is a medium-bodied white with astonishing flavours of citrus, pear and flowers. The palate is well balanced, with a beautiful acidity brought by the Sauvignon Blanc. What stands out the most in this wine is the exceptional finish, lasting forever all around the mouth.

What experts say

18/20 "Really delicious, fresh, straight, full, profound: the finish is not seconds, but in quarters of an hour: the sign of a great wine. It is quite a unique experience. The 2008 tasted recently was as elegant as some of the good Corton Charlemagne." (previous vintage)

16/20 "We like the flavours of fresh fruit and flowers, the amazing finish making us believe we are in the sunset..." (previous vintage)

88/100 "Light gold. Young nose with predominant toasted oak backed by white fruits. Ample, full-bodied palate. Fat stuffing with huge oak presence. Wonderful sourness on the finish. A youthful, full Oc wine that needs to mature. Decant for those who can wait." (previous vintage)

For this exciting red wine, the winemaker of Domaine d’Aigues Belle is blending the Bordeaux grape Merlot with local old-vines of Grenache and Mourvèdre. The terroir is in the Languedoc appellation, but the wine is “only” an IGP Pays d’Oc to allow any grape in the mix. The result is a delicious and round red wine, benefiting from a Bordeaux lookalike...

"An icon in Languedoc" from the famous French wine critics Bettane & Desseauve. This is the least we can say for this amazing 100% Chardonnay. Tiny yields, harvest at night to protect grapes, careful vinification and 3 months in French oak barrels: These are the secret ingredients to what is, according to many famous critics, the "best Chardonnay in...

Made of Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, the Rosé from Domaine d'Aigues Belles is a simple and light coloured Languedoc with delicate aromas of peach, citrus and gooseberry. Unlike other rosés in the region, it does not look for any fuss or so-called complexity. It is just a nice and fresh wine to enjoy in the sun!

Cuvée Nicole is a similar concept to Cuvée Lombarde: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are blended with the Syrah grape, which brings a lovely spicy character. Like all red wines of the Domaine, it spends time in oak barrels to pick up tannins and enhance the structure. Aromas of black fruit end up on a toasted finish, which lasts on the palate. A beautiful...

This is probably our favourite red this week! Cuvée Classique is the most typical Languedoc wine from the Domaine, although it is surprisingly smooth, remaining medium-bodied. Given the exclusive use of local grapes and the ideal terroir, it benefits from the Languedoc appellation. It shows beautiful aromas of ripe black fruit, forest and spices, with a...
