Pouilly-Fuissé 2015 - Domaine Les Vieux Murs

Pouilly-Fuissé is THE star of the Mâconnais – and one of Your Sommelier's favourite appellations for white Burgundy wines! The Domaine Les Vieux Murs is a small 4-hectare estate made of some of the best parcels in Pouilly-Fuissé. It all started here for the Paquet family in 1978, and they have kept the original name and label of the Domaine after expanding with Fussiacus. This is a subtle Chardonnay exhibiting yummy aromas of ripe white fruit and notes of flowers. A nice balance and a buttery yet fresh finish for this warmly recommended Pouilly-Fuissé.

What experts say

Silver Medal at Decanter Worl Wine Awards "Ripe, rich and opulent melon and exotic fruit nose with nuances of lemon tart and a gentle oak influence. Fruit driven, weighty palate of stone fruit, freshly cooked butter biscuits and lemon zest."(Previous vintage)

90/100 "Pouilly-Fuisse Les Vieux Murs has a perfumed bouquet with lifted scents of quince, honeysuckle and orange blossom that soar from the glass. The palate is well-balanced with plenty of succulent Satsuma and quince notes, though the finish needs a little more delineation and poise. This represents a big leap in quality over the regular Pouilly villages." (Previous vintage)

88/100 "Bright yellow colour with green hue. Racy nose, ripe white fruit, touch of flint. Harmonious palate with yummy fruit, a few spices support the minerality. Convincing wine." (Previous vintage)

15/20 "The pale golden robe already shows a lot of freshness - which nose confirms with aromas of citrus, white pepper, green apple, pear. Vanilla comes next and we also find it on the palate with a buttery and light aspect at the same time. Pleasing!" (Previous vintage)

Pouilly-Vinzelles, a tiny 52-hectare appellation, is a great alternative to Pouilly-Fuissé. Benefiting from a 100% maturing in oak barrels, this wine has an expressive nose of citrus, quince and peach. Palate is round and structured with a fresh attack: A really fair complexity for this kind of price.

Although gaining more and more recognition over time, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation does not have any "Premier Cru" or "Grand Cru" classification (yet?) - but "Vers Cras" would definitely be one of them. Thanks to an exceptional terroir, it produces highly complex wines. This cuvée is outstanding and shows an explosive, concentrated, fruity, nutty nose....
