Sancerre Blanc "Le Rochoy" 2016 - Domaine Laporte

This Cuvée is elaborated from Sauvignon Blanc vines planted on 10-hectare plot called Le Rochoy, lying hillside on flinty soils and recently converted to Organic farming. A highly mineral and complex wine with a lot of different aromas of ripe fruit. One of the most elegant and pure Sancerre we came across, so definitely worth its price!

16.5/20 "Tank sample. Slightly cloudy. Spicy pear aroma and creamy spice on the palate. Defined and precise but rather linear, for the moment at least, but give it a few months in bottle for it to settle down. Long, sour-fresh finish. (JH)" (previous vintage)

Wine Spectator

91/100 "Very steely, with a strong flinty edge that runs throughout, harnessing the core of peach, thyme and wet straw flavors. Piercing finish. Drink now through 2020.(previous vintage)

94/100 Editors' Choice "From a sloping flinty vineyard, this is an impressive wine. It is powered by its tight tense texture to give a concentrated essence of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine, with its green and citrus fruits, is tangy, steely and needing to age. Drink from 2019."

This bottle is made from vines planted in the typical local soil called “Truffeau”, which is mostly made of porous clay and the Cabernet Franc thrive in there.   Sancerre is well-known across the world for its classy Sauvignon Blanc, but 20% of the production are actually red wines made of Pinot Noir. Even if they are less complex than their neighbours in Burgundy, they are definitely worth our attention: most of them are terrific wines! This Pouilly-Fumé comes from one of the most prestigious parcels of the appellation, which has been recognised in 1492. It has been fermented in oak barrel to develop the aromas and complexity of the wine. The result is amazing, with an incredible nose of white flowers and grapefruit. On the palate, aromas of ripe apple, lime and peach take over, ending...

A fresh and aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, perfect afterwork or aperitif wine! Very fruity with notes of citrus, lime, peach and white flowers on the palate. Not a complicated whit but with a lovely acidity on the finish, it immediately calls for another glass. Excellent quality for this price. A great pick from one of the best Sancerre producers! 88/100 Wine...
