Pouilly-Fuissé "Ancestral" 2016 - Domaine Sangouard-Guyot

This second Pouilly-Fuissé comes from one of the best plots of Vergisson: “Ronchevat”, a 50 year-old vineyard planted on clay-limestone soils. Mindful of traditions, Pierre-Emmanuel leaves this cuvée in oak barrels as his ancestors used to do. The result is a full-bodied wine with toasty and buttery notes, aromas of white flowers and exotic fruit, combined with a great opulence. Drink now of wait for a year or two to get its full potential.

What experts say
RP.jpg90/100 "The Pouilly Fuissé Ancestral comes from 50-year-old vines and sees ten months in 3- to 5-year-old barrels with weekly lees stirring. It has an attractive bouquet with dried apricot, touches of acacia honey and flinty notes that become more prominent with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a fine thread of acidity, crisp lime and lemon zest notes with a bright and perky finish that has the salinity to leave you wanting more. Understated, but quite classy." (previous vintage)
90/100 "While this wine does not age in wood, it does age on its lees, giving it a rich, creamy texture. It's smooth, full and soft, its apricot and peach flavors showing ripeness and openness." (previous vintage)
