Another very nice red bottle from Laurus noted 88 by Robert Parker. This Gigondas has a dark red colour and a beautiful nose of blackberries. Full-bodied red with solid tannins and a fresh, spicy finish. Typical red grapes from the Rhône Valley are blended to make this greatly balanced wine.

A word about the domain
Laurus is the high-end brand of the winemaker Gabriel Meffre, a “Negoce” house created in 1936. From a small family business at the beginning, it has become a well-established house, producing great and very consistent wines either from its own domains or its “negoce” activity. For Laurus, the house is selecting only the best grapes from their partners and is taking a very important part in the management of the vineyards to ensure the highest quality. Winemaking is then made according to the house “savoir-faire” and many critics have been praising their wines as great example of the Rhône Valleys appellations.

About the wine
Wine Spectator: 89
"A ripe, fleshy style, with a forward profile of raspberry and blackberry confiture, followed by hints of tobacco and anise. Offers a toasted, ganache-tinged finish."
Robert Parker: 88
"More modern in style, with plenty of sweet oak, creamy licorice, toast and spice, the 2011 Gigondas Laurus is medium to full-bodied, textured and supple on the palate. Loaded with fruit, it possess solid freshness, good tannin and plenty of charm."
Jancis Robinson: 16
"Dark crimson. Round and sleek. Well contained but rather modest in its ambitions. Solid but too tense to express Gigondas to the full."
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: 92
"Sexy, expansive aromas of black and blue fruits... Sweet and plush on the palate… Clinging finish, smooth tannins."
