Going up in the range, this Vacqueyras has a bigger body and shows a great balance. Fruity and spicy on the palate with hints of vanilla coming from barrel ageing, it has a nice silky structure and sweet tannins. A great example of this underestimated appellation producing amazing full-bodied red wines.

A word about the domain
Laurus is the high-end brand of the winemaker Gabriel Meffre, a “Negoce” house created in 1936. From a small family business at the beginning, it has become a well-established house, producing great and very consistent wines either from its own domains or its “negoce” activity. For Laurus, the house is selecting only the best grapes from their partners and is taking a very important part in the management of the vineyards to ensure the highest quality. Winemaking is then made according to the house “savoir-faire” and many critics have been praising their wines as great example of the Rhône Valleys appellations.

Bettane & Desseauve: 2* (Good production)
About the wine
Wine Spectator: 91
"Shows a fleshy, caressing feel, offering mixed crushed plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit, lined with hints of ganache and charcoal that carry through the solid, lingering finish."
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: 92
"…Lush, expansive dark fruit flavors, intensity and depth, with juicy acidity contributing lift. Closes with impressive power with silky tannins adding shape. Very sexy now but this wine has the depth to age."
The Rhone Report - Jeb Dunnuck's: 91
"Purity of fruit (…) possibly outstanding, beautifully focused fruit (…) elegant texture, solid concentration and fine, ripe tannins"
Robert Parker: 88
"...This opaque ruby/purple-hued offering displays lots of licorice, incense, lavender and black as well as red fruit characteristics. Spicy and earthy with a meaty generosity, low acidity and sweet, well-integrated tannin, it should drink well for 5-8 years."
