Pernand-Vergelesses 2014 - Maison Champy

Pernand-Vergelesses is the appellation Champy built its reputation on (and possibly our favourite in our selection!) - just try it and you will understand why. It is a round and sharp dry Chardonnay from this northern part of Côte de Beaune, which some even refer to as the "small Corton-Charlemagne" due to its proximity with the prestigious Grand Cru. It offers flavours of ripe citrus and mandarin notes with a light woody touch. Great minerality and complexity with a long finish for this wine from a slightly confidential Burgundy appellation. Very highly recommended.

What experts say
Jancis-Robinson.jpg

16/20 "Smells, rather attractively, of slight burnt lemon meringue. Crisp elderflower notes, herbs, citrus, with quite a broad spine of acidity and structure and a smudge of toastiness on the finish." (previous vintage)

Burghound.jpg

87/100 "There is enough wood to notice framing the ripe and mildly exotic dried yellow fruit aromas. There is good verve and solid detail to the lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a bit more volume on the clean, dry and citrusy finish. In its fashion this is much like the Bourgogne in that there is very good persistence but only average depth for the appellation." (previous vintage)

16.5/20 "Right, straightforward, some vivacity and intensity, very nice wine."
