Sancerre Rouge Grande Cote de la Vallée 2012 - Domaine Roblin

This is the special cuvée of Pinot Noir from the domain. Vineyards are planted hillside to make the most of the sun and production is very limited - only 165 cases per year on average!  Wine shows concentrated aromas of cherry, berries and plum. A few months spent in oak gives it a very fine structure with a velvety finish. With a lot of character, this is the proof that Sancerre is also able to produce amazing red wines.

A word about the domain
Matthias and Émile are the 4th generation of the Roblin Family to manage the property. Matthias took it over in 2000, joined by his brother Émile in 2006. They have developed the domain and converted it to "Agriculture Raisonnée". They are doing an amazing job making outstanding wines from the great "Terres Blanches" soils, made of Kimmeridgian Marls, very well known in the region. They have also upgraded their cellar drastically to control the fermentation better and improve the quality of all their wines.
What experts say

About the wine
Wine Spectator : 88/100
“Lightly firm, with tobacco and briar notes along the edges. A core of crushed cherry and blood orange lingers through the spice-tinged finish.”

Wine Enthusiast: 87/100
“This is a perfumed, stalky wine. It suggests fragrant red fruits and crushed raspberry flavors that contrast with the smoky flavor and strong acidity. At the end, red currants dominate.”

Guide Gilbert & Gaillard: 88/100
“Beautiful deep colour. Focused nose with aromas of ripe cherry and plum. Velvety attack with concentrated fruit and a polished mouthfeel nicely balanced by a lively structure that imparts freshness. A fine Sancerre.”
