Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil "Vieilles Vignes" 2015 - Clos des Quarterons

This is simply a delightful wine from Le Clos des Quarterons and winemaker Xavier Amirault! Elaborated from old vines of Cabernet Franc - over 50 year-old - and matured in demi-muids (500-liter barrels), it really shows how complex a great Loire Cabernet Franc can be. Try and decant it for a couple of hours if you can and let the magic come to your glass. You will discover notes of blueberry and blackcurrant and an elegant touch of violet. Great concentration, good tannins and a nice acidity for this exceptional wine.

92/100 "Produced from biodynamically grown grapes in a walled vineyard, this wine is superbly focussed. Its blackberry fruit, layers of tannins and acidity and concentration are all impressive. Rich while still keeping crispness, the wine is likely to age well over the medium-term. Drink from 2020."

Bronze Medal at Decanter World Wine Awards "Ripe bright cassis and bramble fruit aromas with hints of green pepper and flint. Loads of juicy concentration on the palate with an elegant structure."

Gold Medal at Concours des Vignerons Indépendants
