Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2011 - Saint-Julien

The second wine of Château Lagrange is, by definition, less complex than his older brother - but it does bear a similar profile. A fruity, juicy and subtle Saint-Julien with hints of spices: we find in this bottle the “Lagrange elegance” that we like so much. Fiefs de Lagrange has always been, to our mind, one of the best second wines given its quality for the price - and 2011 is no exception.

What experts say

16.5/20 "Bright crimson. Attractive sweet red fruit, touch of spice. Fragrant and inviting. Elegant, juicy, fresh and so bright. Fine boned and scented. Dry, fresh finish. (JH)"

86-88/100 "Representing 57% of the crop, the Les Fiefs is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. It has an uncomplicated nose with prominent notes of cedar and pencil lead. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant prickle on the entry from the chalky tannins. It has a fine backbone and comes across as rather gritty and masculine towards the graphite-tinged finish. The Fiefs will be fine for early to medium-term drinking. Tasted April 2012.
14.5/20 "It expresses itself on little red berries with a hint of flower. The palate is soft and invigorating for pleasure without restraint.”
